The Spokane Senior Times was created with a clear purpose: to keep seniors at the center of Spokane’s community conversation.
In Spokane County, adults age 60 and older account for nearly 25% of the population, a number that continues to grow as life expectancy increases and baby boomers age into retirement. According to U.S. Census and Washington State data, the senior population in Eastern Washington is expanding faster than many other demographics. This shift affects healthcare, housing, transportation, nonprofit services, business planning, and the overall vitality of our region.
Despite this, seniors are often discussed as a secondary audience rather than recognized as active participants and decision-makers in our community.
The Spokane Senior Times exists to change that.
The Spokane Senior Times is a local publication serving Spokane seniors, their families, caregivers, service providers, and organizations dedicated to ethical senior care. We focus on issues that directly impact older adults in the greater Spokane area, including:
Our mission is not to sensationalize aging or frame seniors as a problem to solve. Instead, we provide accurate, accessible information and meaningful stories that reflect the lived experience of aging in Spokane.
Seniors are a vital part of Spokane’s economy and civic life. They volunteer, donate, mentor, vote, create businesses, and care for others. At the same time, many navigate rising living costs, complex healthcare systems, and major life transitions.
When seniors remain visible in public conversation, communities make better decisions. Planning improves. Services align more closely with real needs. Families feel supported. Independence lasts longer.
Keeping seniors informed and respected strengthens Spokane as a whole.
The Spokane Senior Times is free to seniors and supported by a small number of carefully selected advertisers—businesses and nonprofits that genuinely serve the senior population and operate with integrity. We are committed to avoiding predatory practices and promoting only those who add value to seniors’ lives.
We believe trustworthy information, positive representation, and community connection are essential for healthy aging.
We invite seniors—and those who care about them—to engage with The Spokane Senior Times. Read our quarterly print and digital editions. Follow us online. Share stories, photos, and insights from your own experience. Help shape a publication that reflects what matters most to Spokane’s aging population.
Aging is not a side topic.
It is a defining issue for our community.
The Spokane Senior Times exists to ensure seniors are seen, heard, and respected—today and for generations to come.
